Product Description

Color Diffusing Sea-Life Shapes turn watercolor painting into a mesmerizing ocean-themed art experience as colors spread, meet, and blend across soft, fabric-like paper. Kids can add liquid watercolor, washable marker color, or food coloring, then mist the shapes with water to watch ordinary drops and strokes transform into brilliant swirls, gradients, and one-of-a-kind patterns.

Each pack includes 48 pre-cut sea-life shapes featuring four aquatic designs: two different fish, a seahorse, and a sea turtle. The generous assortment gives classrooms, after-school programs, camps, recreation centers, and other group programs plenty of opportunities to explore color while building an entire underwater collection.

Made from specially designed 57 GSM color-diffusing paper, the shapes have a soft, fabric-like feel that readily absorbs pigment and water. Instead of colors simply sitting on the surface, they flow outward and mingle with neighboring colors, making every sea creature different even when participants begin with the same materials.

Each sea-life shape measures up to 7" x 10", providing plenty of room to experiment with color combinations and diffusion effects. Once dry, kids can add extra details with markers, crayons, glitter, or collage materials, then use their finished sea creatures for bulletin boards, windows, mobiles, ocean displays, science lessons, or colorful take-home artwork.

Made in the USA and designed for young artists, these Roylco Color Diffusing Sea-Life Shapes make it easy to connect process art with lessons about marine animals, habitats, color mixing, and the basic science behind diffusion.

Watch an Underwater World of Color Come to Life

The magic of color-diffusing paper is that kids do not need to carefully paint every inch. A few strategically placed colors and a little water can produce flowing patterns that would be difficult to create with ordinary construction paper.

Try placing yellow beside blue and watch new shades of green appear where the colors meet. Combine pink, blue, and purple for a tropical fish, or layer warm yellows, oranges, and reds for a sea creature that looks like it swam straight through a sunset.

Because the colors naturally move and blend, every shape develops differently. That makes this especially fun for group projects: give several children the same sea-life shape and the finished pieces can look completely different.

Why Kids & Programs Dive Into This Art Activity

  • Special color-diffusing paper lets pigments flow and blend into striking watercolor-style effects
  • Four assorted sea-life designs include two fish, a seahorse, and a sea turtle
  • Works with liquid watercolor, washable markers, or food coloring for multiple ways to experiment
  • Large pre-cut shapes give participants plenty of room for color exploration without cutting out templates first
  • Process-art format means there is no single correct finished result and every participant can create something different
  • Ocean theme connects naturally with marine biology, habitats, summer, beach, aquarium, and under-the-sea units
  • 48-piece pack provides a practical quantity for classrooms, camps, programs, and larger group activities

Teacher Tip

Turn color mixing into a prediction experiment. Before adding water, ask kids what they think will happen where two colors meet. Let them predict the new color, mist the paper, and watch the pigments spread together. Once the sea creatures are dry, use them to build a collaborative classroom ocean while discussing fish, sea turtles, seahorses, marine habitats, and the basic idea of diffusion.

Supplies You’ll Need

For an easy marker-and-water technique, color directly onto the shapes with Crayola Washable Markers, then mist the paper with water using Spray Bottles to encourage the colors to spread and blend.

For more controlled drops of liquid watercolor, dye, or other water-based color, use Plastic Droppers. These make it easy to place small amounts of color exactly where you want them, then watch the pigment diffuse across the paper. Coloring supplies, water, and decorating materials are sold separately.

These Color Diffusing Sea-Life Shapes Are Great For

  • Schools: Bring art and ocean science together in one colorful activity. Students can experiment with color mixing and diffusion while learning about fish, sea turtles, seahorses, marine habitats, and underwater ecosystems
  • After-School Programs: Give kids an open-ended art activity with an exciting visual payoff. Participants can experiment freely with color combinations and turn their finished sea creatures into a collaborative underwater display
  • Camps: Make a splash during summer craft rotations. The ocean theme is a natural fit for beach weeks, water themes, nature programs, rainy-day activities, and colorful summer art projects
  • Recreation Centers: Create an eye-catching group project that accommodates diverse artistic skill levels. Participants can focus on experimenting with color rather than trying to reproduce one exact finished design
  • Nursing Homes / Senior Centers: Explore flowing color through a relaxing process-art activity. The large pre-cut shapes reduce preparation while giving participants room to experiment with watercolor-style effects and creative embellishments
  • Kids at Home: Turn the kitchen table into a colorful underwater art studio. Kids can experiment with color mixing, create a collection of tropical sea creatures, and display their finished artwork in bedrooms, playrooms, or windows
  • Parties / Events: Create a vibrant under-the-sea activity station. Great for ocean birthdays, aquarium themes, beach events, summer celebrations, family programs, and creative make-and-take tables

Tips for Best Results

  • Place the sea-life shapes on a tray or protected work surface before adding color and water
  • Experiment with two or three colors first so participants can clearly watch how neighboring pigments blend
  • Try washable markers, liquid watercolor, or food coloring to explore different diffusion effects
  • Mist marker-colored shapes with water or use droppers to place liquid color more precisely
  • Avoid oversaturating the paper all at once so the colors have room to travel and create visible patterns
  • Let finished shapes dry completely and flat before moving or decorating them further
  • Once dry, add additional drawing, collage, or decorative details if desired
  • Combine finished sea creatures into an aquarium, ocean mural, mobile, window display, or marine-life bulletin board
